Lord of the Rings Online announces the full closure of its old 32-bit worlds at the end of August

When Standing Stone Games revealed its plans for Lord of the Rings Online’s new 64-bit servers, it left a little bit of leeway in regard to the status of the old worlds, saying that their continued existence would depend on the size of the remaining population. However, the verdict is now in: All of these worlds are set to close at the end of summer, and players have until then to finish transferring characters.

On the official site, SSG announced that each one of the old worlds — including the legendary world of Treebeard — will sunset on August 31st. The studio “strongly encouraged” players to transfer before this date but said that it would make those realms available for future transfers at some point over the next two years.

It should also be noted that LOTRO will end its free transfers and 100% housing writ return rate after August 31st. Also closing at this time will be the old forums, which were preserved as “read only” ever since the new forums were activated.

Speaking of Treebeard, that legendary world will experience its final level cap increase to 130 next Wednesday, June 18th.
